I am an award-winning investigative journalist, and a frequent media commentator. I'm currently the Chief Executive Officer & Editor-In-Chief of the Investigative Journalism Foundation, where we're strengthening democracy and building the future of journalism. The Investigative Journalism Foundation is a nonprofit media outlet focused on strengthening democracy. We regularly partner with leading media outlets like CBC, CTV News, National Post and The Walrus, to publish longform investigative journalism. We also built Canada's only public interest databases on topics like who donates money to your elected representatives, who lobby them, and how governments spend taxpayer money.

I'm also currently the Chair of the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ). At the CAJ I created a media diversity survey to measure the gender and race of journalists at a national level for the first time ever. I also established a mentorship program for early-career journalists and increased the organization’s legal advocacy work on press freedom issues, including multiple Supreme Court victories.

Prior to the IJF and CAJ, I had the privilege of working at the Calgary Herald, Maclean's, the National Post and the Toronto Star. I also picked up a few journalism awards including the Best Young Business Journalist award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, the Data Journalism Award from the Global Editors Network, the Project of the Year award from the National Newspaper Awards, the national Excellence in Post-Secondary Education Journalism prize and the Goff Penny Award for Canada's best young newspaper journalist (twice).

I care deeply about press freedom, the collapse of journalism, and the erosion of democracy. I spend most of my time thinking about how to combat those trends. If that's something you're interested in, too, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I speak regularly at conferences on a variety of topics. I have experience both leading private sessions, and addressing groups as large as 20,000.
